A 46-year-old man was electrocuted by a 7,200-volt hydro line near Bancroft, Ont., after climbing a hydro pole Wednesday night.

The incident occurred on The Ridge Road in Wollaston Township, about 180 kilometres southwest of Ottawa, as the man was "attempting to turn on his hydro," Ontario Provincial Police reported.

He died of his injuries at the scene, police said.

OPP spokeswoman Tracey McDonald said it did not appear there was a power outage affecting other homes at the time of the incident.

As sad as this is, it just goes to show you that Darwin still cleans up the gene pool. Who in their right mind climbs a hydro pole to connect their own power.
